Pay the Price

Building on the efforts of the Policy Panel, the Pay the
Price Project trains and deploys youth to educate their
peers and communities about underage drinking laws and
the consequences of underage drinking and driving. In
addition to facilitating "Pay the Price" presentations, youth
are involved in media advocacy, law enforcement,
environmental prevention and community organizing efforts.
It involves a cadre of youth (representing the diversity of
San Diego) both as leaders and trainers in the project and
participates in ongoing local and statewide efforts aimed at
reducing youth access to alcohol and enforcing underage
drinking laws, particularly those related to traffic safety.

Project Goal: Increase knowledge among adults and youth about the legal, social and health consequences of underage drinking and underage drinking and driving.

To achieve this goal the project:

  1. Makes presentations to youth and adults that identify the consequences of underage drinking in a way that promotes the retention of that knowledge.
  2. Increases public awareness of police efforts to enforce underage drinking laws through the use of media advocacy.
